Mastering System Approach, a Requisite for Evaluation
Led by the Washington Evaluators and the International Development Evaluation Association, April 18th, 12:00-1:30pm ET
Evaluation has evolved over time and is now in its fifth phase. It went through the phases focusing on measurement, describing strengths & weaknesses of the evaluand, providing a judgement on the merit of the intervention, and evaluating in a participatory fashion. Nowadays, the challenge is to conduct evaluation from a systemic perspective when addressing complex and transformative change.
Hence there is a need for evaluators to master the key concepts behind system thinking to plot the right approach required when evaluating complex and interrelated endeavors. During the webinar, we will review the fundamental concepts of systemic thinking. Also, we will look at characteristics of complex system and have an insight on their dynamics. We will use the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals as examples of complex systems and reflect on the challenges of evaluating them.
